New CD-Records: Jad Fair and Sonny & The Sunsets

The newest additions to our on going CD-Record Series are Jad Fair and Sonny & The Sunsets.  We are down to our very last copies of the Jason Lytle and Scott McMicken CD-Records, so they are only available as a full series, and there are very few of those left over. Pick them up here

American Monoxide/Wight Lhite “Magic Mirror” Lathe/Cassette Sandwich
A split EP from Tucson weirdos American Monoxide (Dimitri Manos of Dr Dog/Golden Boots) and Wight Lhite. This cassette was released in two formats… The standard version on Paisley Shirt Records out of SF, and the “Deluxe Lathe Cut Sandwich” Version on PIAPTK.  The first pressing (red cassettes) are limited to 30 copies of each version. Subsequent editions (if any) will be on different colored cassettes. Pick it up here.

Here’s How it Works:
Each Deluxe Version includes: One Cassette, Two Venn Diagram off-set hole lathe cuts, two bolts, two wingnuts, and four rubber mounting shock absorber grommets, and one Sathers Candy style package. Each lathe cut includes two tracks that are designed to be played in conjunction with the cassette, but can be played separately.
Here is a promotional video for it.  https://youtu.be/tbgzdFj73Og

Advance Base – Four Abstractions Lathe cut 10” with hand drawn covers
A new EP of instrumental outtakes from Owen Ashworth’s Advance Base.  On clear, 10” lathe cuts, all in covers hand-drawn and numbered by Owen.  This is limited to 50 copies.  I have 25, Owen has 25. Includes instant download.

PS – We are down to our last few copies of the Advance Base/Hello Shark 7”. We have no plans to repress it. Get it here.

Anthony Junior – A Magical Evening with Anthony Junior 12” Lathe Cut w/ Unique Hand Painted covers
25 tracks of lo-fi outsider pop genius on one clear, lathe cut LP with hand-painted covers by Anthony himself.  We recently found 13 covers that Anthony painted in 2008 for a planned release that never happened.  The plan is to ultimately make this a run of 50 copies, with Anthony painting another 37 covers, but Anthony has never been completely reliable or predictable. So, there is a chance that these 13 copies will be the only ones made.  So, this “first pressing” has been numbered out of 13, and the “second pressing” will be numbered out of 37 (if it happens).

Listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/anthonyjuniorpiaptk/sets/anthony-junior-a-magical-evening-with

If you’ve been following PIAPTK from the beginning, you might remember Anthony Junior. We released several things for him before he dropped off the face of the Earth in 2008.

For the people who met him, Anthony is legendary.  The legend hasn’t always been pretty, but it was ALWAYS interesting. One of these days I will write a book about my two years of living and playing music with Anthony.  The Spanish band, Notes to Myself (who stayed at our house for one night), wrote a song about it in the meantime, it’s called “Night at Anthonys”.

Like Daniel Johnston, Syd Barret, Brian Wilson, Biff Rose, and Ivor Cutler before him, Anthony has/had intense sparks of genius, unconventional musical ideas, prolific output and certain “challenges” in day to day functioning and interpersonal relationships.  Over the last 7 years, I haven’t heard much from Anthony.  He went through a pretty hard time during our tenure as roommates in Olympia in 2007/2008 and we parted on somewhat unpleasant terms.  Over the ensuing years he would pop up and make contact during his good periods, disappear during what I can only assume were his harder periods.  He recently got back in touch, is living in Vancouver, recording new songs, and appears to be doing pretty well.  In honor of that, we dug out these old covers that were intended for the release of “Magical Evening With” in 2008.

Built In Sun – ST Last Chance for Preorder Exclusive Lathe Cut
The new single from the Built In Sun LP is starting to get picked up at radio stations across the country, and is being debuted now at Death & Taxes, with a new video coming very soon!  Just a reminder that this is the LAST CHANCE that you have to preorder the LP and get a bonus lathe cut semi-flexi 7” with new, unreleased tracks from Joe Plummer and Pall Jenkins (Three Mile Pilot, Blackheart Procession).  Lathe cut 7”s come with ALL preorders, including black vinyl, but will not be available after the first shipment of preorders, approximately Aug 1st.

Joyful Noise, our buddy company, is also about to post the news about the release, and they have a MUCH bigger and more rabid audience than us weirdos do, so the chances of us selling out of our copies of both the one-time pressing of Silver with Blue haze color in color vinyl and black are pretty high.

ABOUT BUILT IN SUN:
We are so excited to announce the debut album from Built In Sun, the new project from Joe Plummer (The Shins, Cold War Kids, The Blackheart Procession, etc) with Pall Jenkins (The Blackheart Procession and Three Mile Pilot) on vocals and Richard Swift on Bass.
There will be a limited edition of 250 copies will be on "translucent aqua inside silver" vinyl. The rest will be on glorious black vinyl. All preordered copies of the special colored vinyl will include a bonus 7" clear, square semi-flexi lathe cut of an instrumental non-album track!  Pick them up HERE!
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A PREORDER: ORDERS WILL SHIP IN TIME TO ARRIVE FOR AUG 7th RELEASE DATE. Any items ordered with this item will not ship until that time.
Built In Sun in a new project from Joe Plummer, drummer for The Shins, Cold War Kids and Mister Heavenly. Joe has also produced and co-recorded an all drum project called Hew Time, released on Joyful Noise in 2014.  Joe has played drums and percussion with Modest Mouse and The Black Heart Procession, both touring and recording over the course of 10 years.  Built In Sun started during touring breaks between The Shins “Port of Morrow” and Cold War Kids “Hold My Home” releases.  Built in Sun began as an instrumental idea, with inspirations landing somewhere between John Cales Fear, the punk vibe of the Wipers and John Reis, and his favorite soundtrackists John Brion and Clint Mansell. After the first instrumental mixes were finished (with help of from Richard Swift) he decided that the tunes and melodies just might be cool enough to ask a few of his pals to sing. Pall Jenkins  (The Black Heart Procession) was the first. Within a day Pall sent back John John, with solid scratch vocals. Next day, another song. Next day another song…….No use to ask anyone else.  The songs came together with the addition of vocals and it felt good to again collaborate with Pall.  With this, Built In Sun was complete, and is set to be released on PIAPTK, August 7th, 2015

Flaming Lips on PIAPTK! SpaceFace and Blank Tapes Multi-Holed Art Records!

Hello!
We just got back from PsychFest, cutting records for the Flaming Lips, and due to threatening weather conditions, we shut down early and have some copies available to sell. This is a Flaming Lips Record on PIAPTK! A teenage dream come true!  Also, since I'm going to guess that this email might get a few more opens than my last one, I'm including all the stuff from the previous email underneath the new stuff. So, hopefully everyone will check out some of our other releases!

The Flaming Lips - Good Vibrations  4 Sided Record:
These 3-holed, 4 sided lathe cut records were created for Austin Psych Fest 2015.  The plan was to sell them exclusively at the festival, but due to inclement weather, last minute notice and weird booth location, we have a handful leftover for sale through the site. There were 350 made, and they will never be repressed.

Includes a cover of Good Vibrations and three short "remixes".  The large groove and center small groove are on side A and the two outer small grooves are on Side B. The small grooves may not play on some automatic turntables. You may need a DJ style manual player.

Due to licensing restrictions, purchase of the Flaming Lips record does NOT include digital download. Sorry!

STRICT LIMIT OF ONE PER PERSON/PER ADDRESS

*Note... there are a lot of people that want these. Please do not buy them just to flip on eBay. We will know, we will be bummed, and your karma will suffer.

Pick them up here!

SPACEFACE: Up In the Clouds -3 holed Could shaped Lathe cut:

A 3-sided Cloud Shaped 8" lathe cut from Memphis psychedelic DIY Lighting Pioneers, SpaceFace. Includes the tune Up In The Clouds plus two short loops, one keyboard and one vocal loop. Spaceface includes Jake Ingalls, The touring Guitarist for the Flaming Lips.

The Blank Tapes - Double Vision EP
An EP of new hits from SoCal pysch poppers, The Blank Tapes. Has 2 off-set grooves that cause a min-melting optical illusion on clear plexiglass. With a transperency insert.
Side A: I Think I Took Too Much, Somebody Stole My Weed
Side B: Chasing Tail, Fun With You

DOHM, Jad Fair, Reptar, Shirts, and Lathe cut Camp!

Hello!
Things in the world of record cutting have been insane recently… we had MobileVinylRecorders.com gigs in NOLA (cutting the Isley Brothers for Mardi Gras!) Charlotte, NC, NYC, and Paris, and it looks like we will be down at Austin Psych Fest cutting some of my patented multi-hole art records for one of my oldest favorite bands, The Flaming Lips!  But, in between all of these trips, I’ve also managed to whip up a new batch of releases (with a lot more in the works!)

  1. DOHM – "FREE"
is the debut release from DOHM (Money Mark (Beastie Boys/Beck/Mike Watt, etc) + Patrick Keeler (Raconteurs/Greenhornes/Afghan Whigs).  This SIX SIDED Record is comprised of 3x 4" records joined together.  Each one has unique sections of a 36 minute live set recorded in South Central LA.  Each side has about 2 minute snippets that end in unique locked grooves.  No 2 discs are the same.  Includes a download of the entire set. Pick it up here. And while you are at it, pick up the American Monoxide 6 sider (different design).

  2. Jad Fair – “Stick” b/w “This Time” Square Lathe Cut with HAND DRAWN (and numbered) covers by Jad. Jad Fair of Half Japanese is legendarily weird. He’s been making envelope-pushing music for almost 4 decades. I made these for his upcoming Euro tour with Normal Blake.  He got half and I got half. Keep an eye out for his CD-Record coming soon! Pick it up here.

  3. PIAPTK T-Shirts
     – We’ve got some new t-shirts featuring a technical drawing of our beloved Presto 6N record lathes made by Marina Cornelius of Acorn Bcorn. Available in retro heather blue or retro heather grey. Available in BIG sizes as well. Pick it up here.

  4. Reptar – Lurid Glow Cassette
    – as part of our partnership with Joyful Noise, we will be releasing select JNR releases on cassette.  This one is from Athens, GA’s Reptar. Includes the album in MP3. Pick it up here

  5. Lathe Cut Camp
    – I get emails almost daily from people wanting to get into record cutting. So, in response, I’m giving folks the chance to see what it REALLY means to be lathe troll. The first ever Lathe Cut Camp! Spend three days in scenic Tucson, AZ learning (almost) everything you need to know about DIY Record Cutting!  The focus of this camp will be on mono "semi-professional" machines, with particular focus on Presto 6Ns, which are one of the most common and affordable vintage machines around.  You can do some amazing things with these incredible machines, and I will show you how. Bring your own music and we will put it onto discs for you to take home.  We will touch on professional record mastering/pressing, but my main interest and experience, and the focus of this camp will be on the more DIY and experimental side of the hobby.  There are only 8 spots available, so buy early!  Check it out here.

  6. New Stuff in the Golden Boots Rarities Store - The Golden Boots have been playing a lot of shows and working on new recordings, and are continuing to crank out items for their store to help pay for it all.
Golden Boots T-Shirts - a great new design celebrating their home state of AZ. Comes with a hand-picked sampler featuring a lot of rare and unheard tunes.
Handpainted covers - Ryen has been busy making some more unique and handpainted covers for DBX'n'SPF.

  7. Upcoming Releases:
    1. Jad Far – CD-Record
    2. Sonny and the Sunsets – CD-Record
    3. Forest Fallows – At Home LP
    4. Built In Sun – The debut LP from the new super group featuring: Pall Jenkins (Blackheart Procession/Three Mile Pilot/Ugly Casanova), Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse/Shins, etc), and  Richard Swift.

    6. American Monoxide/Wight Light – Cassette/Lathe cut combo
    7. Grandaddy – Arm of Roger “The Ham and It’s Lily” The legendary practical joke record from Grandaddy is seeing it’s first “official” release, and it’s only time on vinyl through Soild Gold. And true to Soild form, there will only be 300 copies!  This will be gone FAST.
    8. Briana Marela  Multi-Hole Art Record.
    9. Jeremiah Green (Modest Mouse) Multi-Holed Art Record

Thanks for wading through this tidal wave of information. As always, your support is greatly appreciated.  Even if you can’t buy anything right now, spreading the word always helps!

Thanks! Mike & PIAPTK
