Advance Base
Advance Base is a new musical project by Owen Ashworth, the 33 year old man who spent the entirety of his young adulthood going around calling himself Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. Following a trajectory away from the synthesizers & teenaged feelings of his awkward, weepy years, Advance Base is a quieter, more confident, more piano-y outlet for Mr. Ashworth's considerable songmaking talents.
Anni Rossi/Whitman
Collaboration between So-Cal folk weirdo Whitman and Violin Goddess Anni Rossi.
Bed Rugs
“Young Belgian four-piece Bed Rugs offer a delightful album of melodic vocal psych pop with Rapids, served & weaving in the psych references without overdoing it” Record Collector 4/5
“The guitars are a slovenly mess, emanating the contented apathy of just laying in the sun, flipping between gravelly distorted threads and jangly banjo-esque chords” The 405 7/10
Benoit Pioulard
Described by my buddy as Nick Drake soaked in reverb, Thomas Meluch makes beautiful atmospheric folk music.
Bent Shapes
For fans of Boston's relatively cloistered DIY punk scene, Bent Shapes' debut LP Feels Weird is a long time coming. Originally known as Girlfriends, the trio-- bassist Supriya Gunda, drummer Andy Sadoway, and guitarist Ben Potrykus-- has been a hometown hero of small venues and house shows since they formed in 2009, racking up nominations and wins for their high-strung, merciless garage-pop at the Boston Phoenix's annual Boston Music Poll. Aside from a handful of short, micro-distribution releases, however, they were almost exclusively a live act, one that required fans to seek them out in person to get a proper fix. Then in May of last year, blaming a need for change and the addition of a new guitarist (who vanished almost as soon as she appeared), Girlfriends became Bent Shapes. They collected the bitingly catchy punk songs they'd released over their three years as a band and released a compilation called Cull Shorts, a sort of scrapbook retrospective on the Band That Was Girlfriends.
Built In Sun
Built In Sun in a new project from Joe Plummer, drummer for The Shins, Cold War Kids and Mister Heavenly. Joe has also produced and co-recorded an all drum project called Hew Time, released on Joyful Noise in 2014. Joe has played drums and percussion with Modest Mouse and The Black Heart Procession, both touring and recording over the course of 10 years. Built In Sun started during touring breaks between The Shins “Port of Morrow” and Cold War Kids “Hold My Home” releases. Built in Sun began as an instrumental idea, with inspirations landing somewhere between John Cales Fear, the punk vibe of the Wipers and John Reis, and his favorite soundtrackists John Brion and Clint Mansell. After the first instrumental mixes were finished (with help of from Richard Swift) he decided that the tunes and melodies just might be cool enough to ask a few of his pals to sing. Pall Jenkins (The Black Heart Procession) was the first. Within a day Pall sent back John John, with solid scratch vocals. Next day, another song. Next day another song…….No use to ask anyone else. The songs came together with the addition of vocals and it felt good to again collaborate with Pall. With this, Built In Sun was complete, and is set to be released on PIAPTK, August 7th, 2015
Carcrashlander
Solo project of Cory Gray, who has played trumpet or piano on almost every album (that matters) recorded in Portland in the last 8 years. Decemberists, Norfolk and Western, Darren Hanlon, Graves, The Dodos, etc.
Chris Sand aka Sandman The Rappin' Cowboy
Long before Florida Georgia Line, (but also long after The Rappin' Duke), Chris Sand has been combining Cowboy Poetry, Folk Songs, and Sex Raps into his weird and eclectic set. Full on Montana Cowboy Gentleman, Chris was the subject of the amazing documentary, Roll Out Cowboy (available on Netflix and DVD), and is one of my favorite artists that I met while living in Olympia.

Doug Martsch
I mean. It didn't get much higher on my bucket list than Doug Martsch. If you are here, you already know this guitar indie psych genius.
Dr Dog
Dr. Dog is an American rock band based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. Its lineup consists of Toby Leaman, Scott McMicken, Frank McElroy, Zach Miller, and Eric Slick. Lead vocal duties are shared between Leaman and McMicken, with all members contributing harmonies. In addition, each band member has a nickname beginning with the letter T, and they have explained that friends of the band also receive nicknames, which are drawn from aspects of their lives and personalities.
Eric Slick
Eric Slick was born in 1987. He started playing drums at the ripe old age of 2. During his teenage years, he studied at the Paul Green School of Rock Music with drummer Tim Karsten. He went to University of the Arts but quickly dropped out because his hands weren't small enough to play light jazz.
He began his career in 2006 as the drummer for Frank Zappa tribute act Project/Object. Shortly thereafter, he was swooped up by guitar pioneer/King Crimson member Adrian Belew. They toured the world together with his sister Julie Slick (bass) as the Adrian Belew Power Trio. They hugged each other often. Eric left the group in 2009 to pursue other projects and eventually landed in the Philadelphia group Dr. Dog. Eric also regularly performs with Philadelphia bands such as Springs, Paper Cat, Ape School, Norwegian Arms, and Nightlands. Eric sleeps in 3 and a half hour intervals.
Eric has also performed/recorded with Nels Cline (Wilco), Daniel Rossen (Grizzly Bear), R. Stevie Moore, Cass McCombs, Gordon Gano, California Guitar Trio, Bobby Martin (Zappa), Napoleon Murphy Brock, Ike Willis, Jon Anderson (Yes), Eddie Vedder, Ann Wilson (Heart), Mike Keneally, Ween, Crescent Moon, John Wetton (King Crimson), Carlos Alomar (David Bowie), Chris Harford, Matt Vasquez, Ben Kweller, Gary Lucas (Captain Beefheart), Deer Tick, and Andrew Weiss.
Eric wishes he could play with Bjork someday, or at least play her in Scrabble. He would likely "SCRABBLE" on a Triple Word Score with the word "OCTOPUS".
